Principal's Message
Dear McAlister Family,
I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed your summer break and are ready to start another productive school year. As of 2025 - 2026 School year, McAlister High School has become a single-site school co-located with Plasencia Elementary School. Although we had encountered significant challenges that impacted our student attendance and their livelihood, our empowered, resilient scholars finished the 2024 - 2025 school year with significant achievement. According to preliminary test results, Our data this year reflects meaningful growth in student achievement. In 2024, most of our students were significantly behind in both reading and math. Nearly all were three or more grade levels below.
By 2025, we saw meaningful progress. In math, 7% of students reached mid or above grade level, and 20% were at early grade level. The number of students far behind dropped from 92% to 67%. In reading, 8% of students reached early grade level, and those far behind dropped from 97% to 69%.
Our state test scores also improved. Reading scores went up by 74 points, and math scores by 40 points. Last year, almost all students were below standard. This year, that dropped to 60%, with 20% now meeting or exceeding standards and another 20% getting close. It is all because of the dedication of all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly ensuring that our students are ready for the world!
Looking ahead, we will continue to put our students first by providing opportunities to access quality education. We are bringing a dual enrollment program by partnering with LATC to ensure our students have access to college and career pathways..
Thank you for all our support and let us have another great year together!
Best,
Nurnisa Kurban, Principal
